We re-branded as Rhyzome Networks in 2010 and constructed a city-wide wifi system with more than 300 wireless mesh access points. This network was originally constructed to support smart metering backhaul, but an opportunity to fill a gap in the areas under-serviced telecom market was realized and Rhyzome Networks began capitalizing off the technology through the sale of wireless internet services and fibre optic connections. The availability of these services and infrastructure attracted and supported the development of industry and solidified Stratford’s reputation as a smart community.

FHSI has been instrumental in the discussions and projects that have attracted the attention of the Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network (AVIN), naming Stratford as the testing site of autonomous and connected vehicles in the province of Ontario.

This project will see Rhyzome install DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) and 5G communication systems in the City of Stratford, maintaining the City’s position as a top intelligent community.

Rhyzome has also partnered with local telecommunication providers to bring FTTH
(fibre-to-the-home) to residents in both the City of Stratford and the Town of St. Marys.
